Jinnah's success!

This was a PS to Sue's last email, but i had already put her email on our blogg:

PS I was so keen to up date you I didn't read the web blog - I like it a lot. I didn't realize that I have gradually told Jinnah's story - how he has gradually 'domesticated' . He has not weed or sprayed anywhere he shouldn't since that time on my duvet - 3 weeks ago now. (although I will keep my fingers crossed). We are also now getting excited about Nehru's arrival. Reading the blog reminded me about Jinnah's injection and chipping. What should we do about that. We could probably bring him to you - but he is still very scared of being lifted or picked up. We would love you to see him 'at home' with us because it is not just a testament to our patience and love but also to the early first aid and care you gave him. However even if you came to us it may be difficult to hold him while you injected him. What do you think?

These emails from Sue that make up Jinnah's diary are as Sue sends them to us, the only things we have altered are brand names of food on one of Sue's emails, which we replaced with ????? and on an occasion we replaced with wet and once we also took out the brand name.

Jinnah's confindence is growing

Hi Jacky
Jinnah is doing so well. He now lives with us all. He slept next to me on the bed last night. He slept on Ken's knee one afternoon at the weekend. He is playful and has a lot to say for himself. He loves rootling around in the garden and frisking about on the lawn in the sun. He and Che are now very settled with each other, they are even beginning to play together and Che is relaxed enough to lie on his back with his legs in the air when Jinnah is sitting near him. All is really working out well. I can't tell you how happy this makes us feel. It is a joy to see him growing in confidence and to feel his affection and trust. This is particularly important in view of the imminent patter of tiny feet. However there is one down side to report ..... Jinnah utterly refuses to eat his ?????? and chicken - he has tasted the fruit of the tree of good and evil i.e. Che's food - and he wants it big time. I have tried mixing a bit of the wet food with his pellets and/or chicken. He will eat a little but goes absolutely frantic for what Che has - he doesn't just politely request it he shouts "I WANT IT NOW!"

Jinnah's diary - he's having cuddles!

Dear Jacky
Jinnah has changed from a virtual mute into a chatter box. He talks all the time. He also jumps on the bed in the morning when I'm drinking my tea, and cuddles up next to me. He lets us all stroke him, and not just when we feed him and he purrs. However, yes there is always a but, he and Che and still very hostile. Because Jinnah now seems to have decided to love us I think the jealousy is both ways. Jinnah seems to want to drive Che away. It is also partly curiosity. Any ideas on how to bring about peaceful co-existence?

Jinnah's diary - what a difference!

This is Sue's response to my request to post Jinnah's diary on our blogg. A success like Jinnah's makes rescue work worth all the effort and expense. It's so good when they can spend the rest of their lives in a loving environment as part of a family.

Hi Jacky
he purrs now - I can't tell you how pleased I am. Pathetic or what! Yes you can use any of it on your blog. I may help anyone who is considering taking on what seemed to be a highly disturbed cat. He is a joy to watch. Running around with his tail up instead of dashing from cover to cover with it down.

Jinnah's diary - making progress

Jinnah is beging to gain confidence, and then he gets knocked back, but i think he will get over this quickly enough to go forward again.

'bad' and good news re Jinnah. On Monday evening he actually 'hung out' with Daniel and Che and I in the sitting room while we watched TV.
He was under a table but relaxed with his head and front legs sticking
well out. Then on Tuesday morning he went out and he and another cat
had quite a fight - not blood but lots of fur (Jinnah's) on the back door step. We assume the fight was between Jinnah and Che but we are not sure. We have several squatters/illegal immigrants who seem to think they own our house. Jinnah spent the rest of that day back under his bed (although he did eat his breakfast) only coming out for food. I was very sad because we had made some good progress. Yesterday he was much better. He talked to me again. He played a lot with us and on his own and wondered about the upstairs freely.
But this morning he almost brought tears to my eyes. When I feed him he has got bolder, he usually comes to the bowl and once he starts to eat a little I give him a little stroke. This time he stopped eating and nudged his head back into my hand just like Che does. It was a real response.

Jinnah's diary

Sue and Ken are hooked on our webcam as they have decided to also have a bengal kitten. This was Sue's next email to us:

Thanks for the info Jackey. Ken actually just sent me an email picture of the kittens on the kitten cam - which he seems to spend a lot of time watching! Jinnah is beginning to play quite well. He also meows at me - I think he is talking but he may just be complaining. However he has been an ASBO today by leaping up on my bed and weeing all over my duvet! But I think this will stop when he is more settled. When is his next injection due?

Jinnah's diary

This was Sue's next email regarding Jinnah, just to let you know the chicken mince is something that Jinnah likes. If you feed only fresh minced chicken then you should also provide a food suppliment. Jinnah likes his chicken very lightly cooked in water and served in the juices.

things are progressing slowly. Jinnah inavertently escaped out the cat flap on Sunday. However he came back voluntarily. Still not letting him out though. When do you think we should risk it. He had an upset stomarch yesterday and did not eat. I hope he will be better today. Aren't we awful - like over anxious parents. Che and Jinnah still exchanging hostilities but my sense is that Jinnah is establishing himself as top cat. Please could we order some more of the chicken mince when you next go. I'd like to get 2 or even 3 bags if poss.
best wishes
Sue

Jinnah's diary

Jinnah's diary (week one)
(Che is Jinnah's new cat friend - he just dosn't know she's a friend yet)

As promised news of Jinnah - he is eating well. Venturing out the bedroom occasionally when we leave the door open for him to explore (windows shut, access to catflap blocked) but he retreats very quickly to sitting under the far side of the bed in the spare room. We open the door as much as we can in the hope that he will feel confident enough the socialize eventually but also so that he can get some exercise. We have put a litter tray in there, a tray with fresh water and his food, a climbing pedastal thing with scratchpost sides, a few hanging toys and a new cat bed. I have cover with single bed with waterproof sheets and old towels because he seems to want to wee on the bed although he is poohing in the litter tray. He is very interested in Che. They have not had any physical contact - but they have had several Mexican standoffs - with Jinnah staring at Che and Che swearing at Jinnah.
As to the names: he will be called Jinnah after Mohammad Ali Jinnah the founder of Pakistan.

rescue cats

In March of this year we took in 8 rescue cats. They had been kept in less than perfect conditions. There were 7 females and 1 male. 2 moggies, 4 cross siamese, 1 siamese and 1 bengal boy.
Our first job was to clean out their ears of ear mites and the debris that goes along with ear mites. Also to worm and flea control them. Some of them are finding it hard to adjust to living outside their very close confinment, although, their muscles are developing slowly with lots of good quality food and exercise. They were then sent to be neutered.
The boy who is now named Jinnah, is a lovely 6 year old bengal. Jinnah was very shy and confused when he came to us. After a couple of weeks he started to get used to us, allowing us to give him a tickle when he came to eat his food, although, he would still hide away from any strangers, not at all like the confindence a bengal boy should have. Gradually he stopped cowering (lack of muscle as well as confusion) and we thought it time for people to come and see him with a view to adopting him. Once he was over being neutered he didn't spray too badly, but it was something worth mentioning to people coming to see him with a view to adopting him.
He has now been adopted, and you can read his story in the following blogg updates, as his new owners sends his diary to us.
