Secret lends a hand

We decide to hand feed the Savannah kittens as we think 5 is too much for Kiki.

Secrets is a brown spotted Bengal queen who has weaned her own 2 brown spotted kittens and is running around our kitchen with them.
When she hears the Savannah kittens asking for their feed, she starts jumping up to see them. So whilst I am feeding them I let her have a look and she joins in to help clean them. The Savannah kittens are fed and Secrets still wants to hug and clean them, so we place them in her bed. Well, what a wonderful mum Secrets is! She loves these two babies and wants them for her own. We may be feeding them but Secrets is loving and cleaning them.
the following day Secrets has her milk coming back in and we only have to top up with feeds.

Secrets, her own 2 bengal babies and 2 small Savannah babies all curled up together in bed - what a gorgeous site!

Sensation is now neutered but doesn't want her kittens back so its hand raising for us for now - or thats what i thought!
This will be the third night in a row without sleep!
Its over to Lynn's as Kiki who is a brown spotted girl is giving birth. she had one kitten in the first hour we were there but it look like its going to be a long night.
Lynn lives over the other side of the village to us, so its a short car journey, but once there i realise its going to be a full nights job. So we bring Kiki back with us and pull out a single quilt for her to give birth on, and go to bed with her to wait for the babies to arrive.

We take the Savannah kittens from Sensation to join Kikis kittens and mum takes them willingly. Wonderful, we think no more hand raising with these babies - little did we know!

8am and we have 2 beautiful Bengal babies, and mum is having a rest. Shortly after we have another gorgeous Bengal kitten, and mum is having another rest.
we check on her throughout the day, but there is still one inside, although the kitten seems to be still high up, and mum isn't pushing at all.
midnight and check on mum and set me alarm to check on her at 3am.

3am and Kiki doesn't look too well. Straight into the vet, kiki has deteriorated considerably in the last 3 hours. Kiki is operated on and a dead kitten is found inside. My vet thinks the kitten has probably been dead for about 4 weeks and is starting to poison her system. We leave kiki with our vet to be placed on a drip and collect her the following day.

i had arranged to visit friends who are Bengal breeders before all these sleepless nights, so i give them a ring and explained the situation. As i thought, they were eager to help, so me and my 5 friends (kittens) went out for the day. We arrived and the 5 babies were immediately fed, and so was i. Wonderful friends who even offered to feed the kittens for me all week. I explained that i was hoping to put them back with Kiki once i collected her from the vet late that afternoon.

We took Kiki home to Purebliss and she was eager to take back all 5 kittens. So we let her look after all 5 but gave them top up feeds to give her a helping hand. Kiki is in my bedroom for now as she is still recovering before going back to Lynns.

Kiki is now neutered and looking for a pet home as soon as she has brought on her Bengal kittens.
Anyone interested in adopting this wonderful brown spotted Bengal female in 13 weeks time should ring me and i will take them to see Kiki at Lynn's.
Kiki isn't one of my Bengals, she is part of Lynn's cat welfare work and will be going back to stay with Lynn once she is on the mend.

a night of 2 hourly feeds with Sensations kittens born, then 2 hourly feeds during the day - Sensation still doesn't want her kittens back. Every pain she has is blamed on us and her kittens.
4pm and we decide she is having problems getting her remaining kitten down into position.
4.30pm we phone the vet, we arrange for a cat sitter and set off as soon as she arrives. we take along her 2 kittens so that we can feed them whilst we are at the veterinary surgery.
5.30pm we arrive at the vets.
Sensation is scanned and we find a live kitten in her - its little heart is beating away nicely.
Sensation has a C Section and we ask for her to be spayed at the same time. The kitten was very high and showed no sign of coming down into position, so we are pleased we took Sensation for a C Section when we did.
The one live kitten came out screaming and kicking - what a pair of lungs!
3 wonderful female Savannah kittens and their mum, Sensation, are doing well.
8.45pm we arrive home with Sensation and her kittens. Time for another feed for the kittens.
We decide not to put the kittens back with Sensation tonight as she is still a little upset with all that she has been through.
We brought a placenta back from the vet with us so that we can wipe her kittens with it so that she can take them back with her tomorrow.
Another night of 2 hourly feeds for me, but better that than risk Sensation getting upset with her kittens and leaving them to go cold and hungry through the night.
What beautiful Savannah Kittens she has had - large ears and such long bodies and legs. Their heads are looking long, which is a good sign at this stage in their development.
Looks like we will be looking for a good forever home for our gorgeous Savannah girl Sensation as soon as she has brought on her kittens.

TICA show

Sunday - we arrive at the show hall.
I was disappointed to hear i missed Purebliss Hunting Girl get BEST KITTEN in an all breed final on Saturday, and she also finalled 3rd Best Shorthair Kitten in another ring, although this time it was a Speciality ring (SP).
I was there with Katey on the Sunday to see Purebliss Hunting Girl get BEST KITTEN in an all breed (AB) final, and also 8th Best Shorthair Kitten in a Speciality ring.
I was so thrilled with her achievements and also grateful to Gill and Mike for presenting her so well.

A reasonably slow start to the day for Katey (my daughter) and me, but things picked up after lunch with more rings for us to put Valour and Timmy in.
Katey's Purebliss Optimus Prime (Timmy) was finalled 10th in a ring, then he was finalled 5th in the Bengal Kitten Congress - Well Done Timmy in your last show as a kitten!
Next time out he will be 8 month old and in the adult classes.

Valour, although he was placed in most rings, didn't final, the standard of Bengals at show this weekend was very high. We saw some stunning cats at show, and had a wonderful day meeting up with some old friends and making some new friends.

Airport Run

Tuesday
6am - feeding, watering and looking after the Bengal and Savannah kittens before we get everything ready to set off.
8am - time to go - long drive to Gatwick with all the rain and spray on the roads. Finally arrive at the airport cargo arrivals.
Waiting for the kittens to clear customs, seems to take for ages before we finally see them.
Finally the wait is over and out they come - wow - gorgeous Savannah kittens. The airport staff have done their usual wonderful job of cleaning both kittens and carriers up, and also taking good care of the kittens so that they come to us destressed and happy.
The journey home was easy and the kittens didn't seem to mind as they were chatting away nicely.
Back at Purebliss Quarantine and we put them all to bed for a good nights rest.
Katey did a wonderful job looking after all the cats whilst we were away, but its back to work for us now, time to feed and water everyone and put them all to bed.

savannahs going home

Sunday
Taryn and James came to pick up their Savannah's:
Purrsonality and her gorgeous 4 Savannah kittens, how gorgeous they are, especially Purrsonality she has a fabulous head, and what a lovely personality.
Smoke now pregnant to Von J (clever boy!), she will have some gorgeous babies to him.
Xcell, the brown spotted female kitten they have taken from Energy's litter, what a gorgeous girl she is. Individual dead spots running along her body, large ears, stunning head and profile.
My goodness we are going to miss them all.
We enjoyed seeing Taryn and James but we were sad to see them all go.

blood tests

07 August '08
wow - what a hectic morning.
make sure i have all their vaccination cards, with microchip numbers, then off to the vets with 10 of my Bengals. Its that time of year for their routine blood tests for FIV, FelV and corona.
we arrive having a very smelly car, and lots of noisy Bengals.
one after the other were very good, they had their necks shaved and their blood taken. then it came to Dolly - oh my goodness, what a lady she was - i kept saying its all show, but when those claws come out no one seems to believe me HA HA!
Dolly is going back next week to try again.
A wonderful veterinary nurse was kind enough to clean away the poo, so i had a lovey smell free car going home.
thats another morning gone, so after a quick bite to eat its tiem to take some photos for people waiting for their kittens to grow.

first savannah kitten rehomed

9 August was yesterday
Energy gave birth to 6 gorgeous Savannah kittens and yesterday was the day when the first one was due to be picked up. He is gorgeous and extreme in his looks, with large ears, very leggy, and a wonderful long body. he has dead spots and all are individual and well placed throughout his body. i will be up against this boy in show and i think i may loose to him :0) I'm so pleased to have been given the opportunity to breed such a wonderful Savannah boy. Its very sad to see him leave us here at Purebliss.

Thankfully my friend carol came and we went out for lunch and a cat chat so that took my mind off things. It was lovely to see you carol as always.

The rest of the day was spent with lots of paperwork whilst Tim continued looking after our wonderful cats.

Enchantment

A very busy morning yesterday as i got all the kittens fed and checked before setting off to see my new Bengal kitten.
After a long drive, I'm pleased to see that i found the correct place - I'm terrible with sense of direction.
Many thanks to Chris for showing me around her gorgeous Bengals - i am so thrilled with my girl, the photographs don't do her justice.
i had a wonderful visit - many thanks to Chris and Peter.

Penelope gives birth

Its Sunday morning (3 Aug 08) Penelope is having her Savannah babies.
Penelope is so excited, she is rolling everywhere and prancing and dancing. Each time a kitten is born she comes to climb all over me to let me know how happy she is. Then back to her babies to cuddle, feed and clean them.

Its 10am and she has had gorgeous brown spotted males and females with lots of individual spots and lovely large ears. Their legs and bodies are so long - they are gorgeous!
WELL DONE PENELOPE!

I thought it was time I started writing my blog again.
With everything that has been going on lately i don't seem to have had any time to myself.
Having fed all the kittens, i thought it time to separate my mink spotted Bengal kitten and my seal lynx Bengal kitten from their litters and place them together to live together as brother and sister for a time.
i placed them together and it was as if they had lived together from birth - how wonderful that they are playing together within 5 minutes.

lunchtime - I'm going back into quarantine now to hand feed a Savannah litter that are having a little trouble adjusting to processed food. they have been struggling for a couple of days, but when i fed them this morning they seemed a little better, so fingers crossed they are going to be OK.

Once the babies have been syringe fed i will have some grooming to do with some beautiful Persians and also some gorgeous Norwegian Forest cats we have in Purebliss Quarantine.
