Half Pint

Fluke/Half Pint is half the size of his brother and sisters, but after a struggling start he was doing really well and running around with lots of muscle building up. What a wonderful boy - mischievous - enthusiastic - very, very loving!
2 days ago he started to loose energy - After an inspection he seemed to be OK with everything other than a little less energetic than normal. All you cat lovers out there know what i mean when i say that you know your cats and we all can sometimes tell when they aren't quite right. Was I being paranoid? - i didn't think so as he wasn't eating as enthusiastically either. we kept him quiet during the night but still let him spend time with his litter mates during the day. Yesterday he took a turn for the worse - He was loosing heat at an alarming rate, very lethargic, not eating normally, although he would take some pureed chicken by licking it from the end of a syringe. He must have felt comfort taking it this way as we had hand reared him from a syringe. He was hydrated, and was eating a little watery pureed chicken. He went to the loo and his stools were a perfect colour, smell, and consistency. we kept him in his favourite floppy igloo on a heat pad, and kept giving him cuddles whenever he called us.
This morning / Thursday Half Pint was giving up the fight! He was just laid in our hands or tucked up our jumpers in his pouch most of the morning - we just couldn't leave him to die on his own without fighting for his little precious life. This lunchtime Half Pint decided to leave us behind and move on to wherever these gorgeous creature go when they leave this life.
some will say that i shouldn't try to save these tiny kittens that sometimes aren't quite right, but my reply to that is take a look at Just Jack. Austin was another small boy who wasn't put together quite right, and he had about 7 good quality, very happy months of life with us - he spent most of his life running around with Jack. its heartbreaking, but when the next one comes along that may or may not make it i guess i will keep trying to pull them through.

Saturday 25 March

Katey joined us at purebliss early morning, and we set off with Oki for the Brigg TICA show. A foggy morning so we took our time, but with no hold ups we arrived on time. With Oki in his sturdy pen we had time to say hello to some of our friends that we only get chance to see at shows. I enjoyed helping Katey show her boy Oki, and also enjoyed catching up on all the gossip.
A phone call home lets us know that Tim has his hands full not only looking after the cattery, cats, and kittens, but Bicky has not only gone into labour but produced 3 wonderful Bengal babies.
we didn't waste much time setting off home as Katey wasn't feeling too good, and when we arrived home i went straight in to see how Bicky was doing with her then 3 kittens which were now 4 gorgeous rosetted brown spotted Bengal babies.

what a day!

Hollywood went into labour last night - we knew she wasn't due until next week at the earliest! What a night! Holly kept crying, and was in her purring pain control. we stayed with her all night - she had a tough time poor luv! 1 premature baby born before midnight, another born early this morning, but as soon as they took a breath they died. This morning she had a very small hairless premature baby born dead, and then later in the day a larger baby died. They were all hairless and probably around the 7 week stage.
Hollywood is so relieved to be through this and cuddled up with us tonight - it was her first pregnancy, although its taken a while to get to this stage. Poor sweetheart, she's not to blame, she just needs a little more luv now.
its heartbreaking to see these kittens born too soon, and poor Holly was obviously upset by it all.
A sad day is ending but tomorrow is another day.

12 march pm

We still had to be up and out for 8am - feeding and cleaning, and generally looking after cats, and kittens in the boarding cattery, as well as our own cats, and kittens. Flaunt-it has buried one of her lynx babies under her bedding - he is cold and flat but still breathing although he is gasping somewhat.
I spent the morning rubbing and drizzling Cimicat milk into his mouth. First he just laid there and didn't care what i did to him. then he started to push me away as i was trying to get watery milk into him. then he started to lay on his tummy on the heated bed instead of just laying on his side when i put him down. Then he started to suck on his milk - i was thrilled.

we decided that although kitty's kittens weren't completely weaned they were close enough for me to finish off weaning her kittens for her, and present her with this kitten. So i took away her kittens, all they wanted to do was give me a cuddle so they didn't mind too much, although kitty wasn't too keen. I then went and found the fattest of Flaunt-it's girls and took her to kitty. i put Kitty's kittens scent onto Flaunt-it's girl and gave it to Kitty. She was confused but liked the smell of her new kitten. Tim changed all the bedding, litter trays, and water, and food dishes to minimise the smell of her own kittens. In no time at all she was cleaning and tucking up around her new kitten, so we did the same with the struggling kitten from Flaunt-it. Kitty now has 2 new snow kittens to look after and she seems to be doing a fine job of it - time will tell. I will continue to top these two kittens up for a couple of days if necessary.

snow bengal babies born

we thought she wasn't going to be long as she had some early/minor contractions last Thursday and Friday.
Flaunt-it hates coming inside to give birth, she always prefers to be quiet and in the dark, so Tim set her up in a heated cabin in the kitten corner next to the Alcom and Alca's run. Alca seemed very restless at about 9.30pm which made us check even closer on the cats nearby, and its such a good job we did. Coffee and bics in the cabin for Tim and I and lots of cuddles with Flaunt-it, and some extra cuddles for Hollywood who is keeping Flaunt-it company. All over by around 6am (not sure exactly the time as we were just too tired) so we left her to her babies and went to bed ourselves. Flaunt-it had 7 gorgeous snow babies - a mink girl, and the rest look like lynx.
