girls for adoption

A1 Savannahs Asia, our brown spotted savannah queen was neutered yesterday.  she is eating and drinking well and is running around as normal.  We would like to find Asia a forever home and feel she would be ready to go in aprox 2 weeks time.
Gayzette Doughnut we call Bicky, and she was also neutered yesterday.  Bicky is sulking and not feeling too happy about it all today so we're giving her lots of cuddles and we've given her a heat pad as well as a heated bedroom.  Bicky is eating and drinking well so we're not worried about her, but we feel she will probably take a little longer to recover so we'll judge nearer the time how long she will stay with us before going to her forever home.  But if you feel you can offer either of these gorgeous girls a forever home please contact Tim on 01400 281586 for more details.

flea control

Its that time again - we use a flea control that also includes an ear mite and round worm control.  we thought we'd start with some kittens today so that they are done ready for when they go from us.  Sandy's kittens, Flaunt-its kittens were all done with a control.  The other kittens are too young.
Next is the youngsters we are running on, and our maiden queens and Obsession.
I don't think i will have time to do the studs and queens today - they will have to wait until later in the week.

bengal kitten is "no-name"

No-name is a gorgeous snow spotted male kitten- hand reared from birth.  Katey has done an amazing job in keeping him alive and kicking.  His mums got herself all worked up and found she couldn't cope too well with all her kittens - she was a new mum you see, and didn't really know what she was doing.  His mum bit the top of his head and injured him badly at birth.  By the time he was 24 hours old his head was turning black, so as well as giving him just one tiny drop of antibiotic on his tongue, he also had a drop rubbed into his wound on his head every day.  Gradually his colour came back to normal on his head and it started to heal.  Katey hand fed him every 2 hours to start with until he was a few days old then she extended the night feed, and fed him every 3 hours at night until he could manage to go to every 4 hours at night, and from then on he was doing well enough to gradually give katey a full 6 hours sleep at night.  He has come to me at 4 weeks old to wean along with Peggy's kittens.  Peggy's kittens took to him straight away, and they all snuggle up together.  Its his third day with us now and he is eating along side of Peggy's kittens.  He loves his sloppy cooked chicken and his poo is starting to be a little more solid now.  He doesn't know when to stop eating yet and his belly is still a little bloated but I'm sure that will sort itself out over the next few days.  He's fast asleep as i type this - they are all curled up together with full belly's.  What a lovely site it is to see a kitten that struggled to hang onto life is doing so well, and is obviously so contented with his new friends.

Why do we all care so much about cats and kittens?  Why do we automatically believe that our new owners care about their cats and kittens?  Why would an owner who had lost such a wonderful part of their lives believe that they can make money out of the death of their kitten/cat?  Why would he believe that he can claim on his pet insurance for a replacement kitten and all the vet costs, and claim a free replacement kitten from a breeder, and also claim financial compensation from that breeder?  When the breeder is shocked and says no to compensation, he then threatens if the breeder doesn't do as he asks then he has contacts in the BBC and will do all he can to take that breeders name through the gutter.  Why would he be surprised that the breeder doesn't want anything to do with him after she was threatened by him?
This owner says he doesn't have the time to devote to a poorly cat but still wants two cats, and feels he will have to have the cat PTS and his vet feels its the right thing to do????  Why would a vet operate, and take and send away a biopsy if he thought the cat should be PTS.  That vet is doing his/her best to save this cats life and give this cat the best chance of a happy life - unfortunately he can't change the way people are.

All through the requests and threats he claims that its not about the money - i ask you what else is he interested in apart from his selfishness and money, as he shows little consideration for anything else.

It still shocks me when people show themselves to be only interested in the money, and gives such small consideration to the life they are destroying.  Why are these cats so easy for these people to replace - would you want this person to have another of your kittens?

08 May 2012

Tuesday 8th - Waves is having minor contractions again, although this time she has lost her plug so we are anticipating her presenting us with her gorgeous Savannah kittens soon.  She keeps pulling me down to rub her belly, and then she lays flat on her back with all 4 legs in the air for me to rub her belly all over.  Then she curls her head around to my arm and snuggles into me.  She is such a sweetheart - the bond we make with these girls when they are having their babies is amazing.  I can't imagine not being there for them when they have their babies.

07 May 2012

Monday 7 May 2012 -
Waves is still keeping us waiting - on two separate occasions she has started minor contractions, and we are putting the last lot down to the 5 day warning that we get from some queens, so she shouldn't be long now.
All kittens are doing well without any major incidents.
Flaunt-its kittens are half way through their Panacur worming and hating me everyday i go anywhere near them if i have anything in my hands.  The panacur has given the two smaller girls the trots and I hate having to put them through this but its a necessary precaution, ready for when they will be going to their new homes.
We are considering neutering Peggy Sue without having another litter from her despite her producing these gorgeous kittens to Frankie.  We are keeping our numbers of our own cats down to 10 Bengals and 10 savannahs. This is not including the ones we are pet passporting for people abroad, although i consider this is part of the boarding cattery.
How strange that we have less of our own cats than many so called hobby breeders, and yet we are condemned due to having a lot of cats because we help with rescue work and I also earn my living with a boarding cattery.  Its a strange world we live in sometimes.
