An all-nighter!

4 July '06
9.30pm - I thought I would have an early night. Just check on B..... as she is due tomorrow. Early contractions, not too bad, so thought i would put my alarm on and have a check on her later. Set my alarm and go and get ready for bed.
Come back into the bedroom, there she is on my bed, curled up on my pillow. I pick her up to put her into her birthing bed, the contractions have become much stronger and she has no intention of going off my bed.
i go and get some towels and lay a quilt on the floor for me to lay on next to her birthing bed. She's well into contractions, but nothing is showing. She keeps taking hold of my arm and pulling it towards her, i haven't the heart to leave her, so i lay down next to her and rub her tummy and back gently.
10.30pm Tim comes to bed, i tell him what's happening and he goes to get some drinks. By the time Tim has come back with drinks we have a brown marbled boy. Hard delivery, large boy and he took some pushing out. Time for a rest, but no, she's pushing and getting herself all worked up. I keep reasuring her and gentle rubbing. Tim takes over with the stroking and gentle rubbing whilst i have a drink.
12 midnight We have another one, a brown spotted girl, and yes, she has rosettes already, wow! She slipped out much easier than her brother.
3am No sign of any more yet. Tim has brought drinks for us both, and then takes himself off to bed, someone has to get up and see to the cats with Vicky tomorrow.
3.30am Being on my own, i'm feeling tired and B....... is feeling tired also, long night for us both, she really want out ot the birthing bed now, its too warm. So i lay the towels down on my bed and lay down with her next to me along with her two beautiful Bengal Kittens, one boy and one girl. We're only laid there 10 or 15 mins and she starts pushing, yes we have a tail, her water has broken and out pops a leg. I've got hold of the tail and leg, there is no way i'm letting them back in. One good push and out comes the other leg and her hips. It's a snow! I keep telling her we need her to push, she mustn't wait as the water has broken and it's a breach birth. One last push and out comes a beutiful snow kitten - it's a girl!
My beautiful Bengal queen is tired now. I leave her just for a few seconds to get her some meat from the other side of the bedroom and then add some warm water. She takes a long drink of the liquid, then lays back and closes her eyes whilst her babies suckle.
It suddenly occurs to me she has no milk! I wake Tim up, "Tim she doesn't have any milk!" Tim looks after her and her babies whilst i go and make up some Colostrum for her babies.
Whilst Tim keeps his eye on her and her babies, i take them one at a time and give them some Colostrum to drink. Just a drop as their tiny tummies can't take much. Very carefully, not tipping them backwards, but positioning them forwards so not to drown them. Their mum seems to know i'm helping and watches me as i take each one in turn and feed them, then hand them back for her safe keeping. She in turn cleans their face then their bottoms.
5am Tim's back in bed and i'm on my own again, well, not quite, but you know what i mean. The contractions keep coming and going, i'm sure she has another kitten in their but maybe its a placenta i've missed.
6.30am One huge push and it's a snow, breach birth, and half way out. She rest for what seems an eternity. Then, finally, a huge effort, and a contraction that seems to tighten around everything in her boday and out it comes, another baby girl.
7am and Vicky is up, she holds B........ whilst i have a proper feel of her tummy, make sure there isn't another kitten to come out. Out pops that placenta i missed, nothing else left.
Leave B......... on my bed with Vicky and go downstairs to make up some more Colostrum. Gently pick each kitten up and give him/her a feed and give them back to their mum. Once they have all had a feed put them and their mum into their birthing bed to settle down.
7.45am Tim brings me some breakfast and goes out to the cattery. My head hits that pillow and i realise just how tired i am. Out like a light!
What a night, What a lovely blissful night!
But my goodness, how tired was I!
